Employment is often seen as an important step towards the rehabilitation and empowerment of a person with a disability because it provides a sense of belonging, importance, and independence. Individuals are carefully matched to courses after a full assessment of training needs and suitability, carried out by a multidisciplinary team of doctors, therapists, social workers, counselors and other professionals, who take into consideration the trainee’s physical and financial condition, education, family support, interests, mobility aids, home environment, and individual needs. The Institute also offers training programs for the other disadvantaged population of the society as per the need and the capability of the institute.

The institute, AGAMI initially has planned for a few training courses, but gradually it will introduce other new training as per the need of the market and society.

AGAMI follows a step by step process for every single trainee where psychological, mental, personal development, as well as the establishment of rights, are also taken into consideration to make the society more inclusive for all. There will be a follow-up program from AGAMI to track the changes and progress of trained students of the institute and will look after their further needs. The Techno hub Project will initiate a model project of ICT education for special children. The deprivation of disabled/special children is a social norm. The project will create a model solution to this deprivation. Techno hub will create workable people in society making them independent and helping them to live with dignity.

The direct beneficiaries of the project are around 50 students (Outdoor &amp; indoor) of Spectra School of Autism. Besides, 100 Autistic families and parents and a good number of regular students are supposed to enroll in techno hub &amp; will be the secondary beneficiaries of this project.

In the techno hub project, persons with Autism will learn IT in a curriculum. At the end of 3 years, they will be able to use IT for employment &amp; day to day life. In the future, by dissemination of training, the students of other schools in Chittagong city will be benefited from the Techno hub. In such a manner, it will bring a huge development in the Special education system in Bangladesh which will add momentum to our journey towards MDG.

Techno Hub is a distinctive IT lab dedicated to individuals with autism. Our mission is to equip those with autism with the necessary IT skills to enhance their daily lives.

Unique IT lab for individuals with autism.

A team of highly trained native and non-native therapists, special educators and psychologists conduct diagnostic, functional, occupational and sensory assessment of the children with autism and NDD. In the assessment process, class teacher, parents and concerned persons are included.

Assessment

Essential information, management strategies, education and training are provided for the depressed parents of children diagnosed with ASD or NDD with the help of these guidelines the parents can combat Autism. Patients of autism are given help for their development.

Counselling and Guidance

In this program 5 to 7 children along with parents are provided with training up to three to six months. Here parents get chance to practice this type of management in their house.

Parent Child Training

Early intervention is the best hope for future. After the detection of NDD or a child with autism must be given required therapy as early as possible. In Spectra School, Intervention is given in the evidence-based systems following. TEACCH 2. ABA 3. VBA 4. PECS 5. AAC, etc.

Early Intervention

Since 2008, World Autism Awareness Day has been celebrated annually on April 2nd, as declared by the UN. Activities include rallies, seminars, lighting buildings in blue, fairs, distribution of educational materials, and cultural programs, alongside the observance of national days with appropriate solemnity.

Raising Mass Awareness

FARE has been organizing national and international workshop and seminar in different disciplines such as raising awareness, management of NDD and autism, acquisition of scientific approach, giving law and legal aid, inclusive education, survey for identification of the disables, and imparting education to the mentally challenged and retarded children etc.

Children with autism aged 6-11 are taught pre-vocational skill.

Pre-Vocational

Students with NDD who are of twelve or more are given professional training so that they can be self-dependent. These training are run by efficient teachers.

This institution boasts of a library furnished with books, journals, dailies and research papers in order to benefit the teachers, guardians, professionals and researchers. It also runs research activities regarding autism and neuro-developmental problems.

This foundation has been running a Zakat fund to help the destitute and insolvent children with autism & NDD. So that they can be educated, trained and rehabilitated.

Children with autism are allowed and inspired to go outside, to practice art and craft, to buy tiffin and snacks from shop, to prepare food, to play and to arrange picnic twice in a week so that they can socialise themselves and become self-reliant.

A project is underway to create a Respite Care Center for children with autism and neurodevelopmental disabilities on land provided by the Chittagong Port Authority on Sadarghat Road. The center, which includes a multistoried building and an academic facility, aims for timely completion with support from generous donors.

Activities

Spectra School of Autism is a special need educational institution under the foundation. It has started as Autistic Children’s welfare Foundation School since 4th October, 2007 and was operated in Day care system. Under the supervision of founder director of Autism Society West Bengal (ASWB) Indrani Basu and with assistance of founder director of Action for Autism (AFA) Merry Barua, the school initiated the up-gradation as a full-fledged and specialized school since 2009. It was renamed as Spectra School of Autism in 2012. At present school based following services are provided here.
