A Beacon of Hope and Excellence in Special Needs Education

Spectra School of Autism is a special need educational institution under the foundation. It has started as Autistic Children’s welfare Foundation School since 4th October, 2007 and was operated in Day care system. Under the supervision of founder director of Autism Society West Bengal (ASWB) Indrani Basu and with assistance of founder director of Action for Autism (AFA) Merry Barua, the school initiated the up-gradation as a full-fledged and specialized school since 2009. It was renamed as Spectra School of Autism in 2012.


At present school based following services are provided here.

Assessment & Diagnosis

Initial phase identifying autism spectrum conditions through evaluations and tests.

Early Intervention

Targeted programs enhancing development in toddlers with autism.

Elementary

Schooling focused on foundational academic and social skills for younger children with autism.

Junior High Section

Intermediate education that prepares pre-teens with autism for higher learning and social integration.

Senior High Section

Advanced curriculum aimed at teenagers with autism, focusing on academic excellence and life skills.

Job Coaching

Support and training to help young adults with autism transition into the workforce.

Assessment

A team of highly trained native and non-native therapists, special educators and psychologists conduct diagnostic, functional, occupational and sensory assessment of the children with autism and NDD. In the assessment process, class teacher, parents and concerned persons are included.

Counselling and Guidance

Essential information, management strategies, education and training are provided for the depressed parents of children diagnosed with ASD or NDD with the help of these guidelines the parents can combat Autism. Patients of autism are given help for their development.

Parent Child Training

In this program 5 to 7 children along with parents are provided with training up to three to six months. Here parents get chance to practice this type of management in their house.

Early Intervention

Early intervention is the best hope for future. After the detection of NDD or a child with autism must be given required therapy as early as possible. In Spectra School, Intervention is given in the evidence-based systems following. TEACCH 2. ABA 3. VBA 4. PECS 5. AAC, etc.

Raising Mass Awareness

Since 2008, World Autism Awareness Day has been celebrated annually on April 2nd, as declared by the UN. Activities include rallies, seminars, lighting buildings in blue, fairs, distribution of educational materials, and cultural programs, alongside the observance of national days with appropriate solemnity.

Workshop and Seminar

FARE has been organizing national and international workshop and seminar in different disciplines such as raising awareness, management of NDD and autism, acquisition of scientific approach, giving law and legal aid, inclusive education, survey for identification of the disables, and imparting education to the mentally challenged and retarded children etc.

Pre-Vocational

Children with autism aged 6-11 are taught pre-vocational skill.

Vocational and Job Coaching Center

Students with NDD who are of twelve or more are given professional training so that they can be self-dependent. These training are run by efficient teachers.

Library

This institution boasts of a library furnished with books, journals, dailies and research papers in order to benefit the teachers, guardians, professionals and researchers. It also runs research activities regarding autism and neuro-developmental problems.

Techno Hub Computer Lab

Children with autism are taught by expert trainers using Curriculum / software in this Lab where 10 persons can work at a time

Special Privileges for the Destitute and Insolvent

This foundation has been running a Zakat fund to help the destitute and insolvent children with autism & NDD. So that they can be educated, trained and rehabilitated.

Communication Facility

Children can enjoy communication facility of two microbus provided by PHP family and Was Brothers.

Social Skills

Children with autism are allowed and inspired to go outside, to practice art and craft, to buy tiffin and snacks from shop, to prepare food, to play and to arrange picnic twice in a week so that they can socialise themselves and become self-reliant.

Respite Care Center

A project is underway to create a Respite Care Center for children with autism and neurodevelopmental disabilities on land provided by the Chittagong Port Authority on Sadarghat Road. The center, which includes a multistoried building and an academic facility, aims for timely completion with support from generous donors.

Monitoring and Evaluation

For ensuring transparency and accountability of income from different sources like tuition fees, financial aid, assistance from the affluent and the patrons, a powerful audit team supervise and monitor meticulously income and expenditure.
